wingu.africa is a privately owned and managed specialist data group, backed by well-established and regarded institutional investors with deep knowledge and experience in Africa and the ICT sector. The group’s origins in Africa date back to 2010 with the formation of Djibouti Data Center (“DDC”), the first carrier-neutral data in Africa and commencement of commercial operations in 2013, with immediate support from the likes of major telecommunication companies such as MTN, China Mobile and PCCW.
The group’s objective is to play a powerful role in helping to “connect Africa”, through development of a network of regional data centers offering open access and carrier- neutrality; fundamental requirements for
hyperscale, wholesale and key customers as evident elsewhere in international markets. New and existing customers will benefit from award-winning operating expertise and experience, a single point of contact and world-class facilities & services in key markets.
Three principal hubs have been identified; Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya, with edge facilities in four other markets, providing excellent coverage in seven key markets under the first phase of the business expansion.
