Course Overview

About the Course

The module clubs the learning from following courses:

Telecom Network Architecture: It will cover topics related to legacy PSTN Networks. The course covers network architecture of fixed and wireless networks. OSI Model, TCP/IP, some basic concepts related to frequency and spectrum are part of the course.

Wireless Network:  Evolution of the wireless cellular network such as 0G, 1G, 2G, 2.5G, 3G, 4G, and 5G are covered in this part of the course. Network architecture of GSM, 3G and 4G has been discussed. The course also gives a brief overview of CDMA, Core Network and Intelligent Networks. The information on call flow in GSM/3G/LTE, CSFB and VoLTE will add to the learning of the participants.

IP and Data Communication:  IP Network concepts are explained in this part of the course. Participants will learn about routing protocol, routed protocol, dynamic routing, static routing, RIP IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF and routing metrics. Teaching concludes with basic concepts on L2TP, IP MPLS and basic concepts related to carrier ethernet and converged networks.

Transmission: The sections gives an overview of the Transmission Networks. Concepts related to transmission medium, multiplexing, PDH, SDH, DWDM and microwave communication are included in this section.

Fixed Line and Broadband Network:  The section deals with the Fixed line network hierarchy, switching system, numbering scheme and call flow. Other terminologies explained in the content include ISDN, VPN, DSL, ADSL , FTTx, TX-IP or MPSL.

Cloud Computing: Starting with the basic concepts related to servers and storage, participants will learn about Redundant Array of Independent Disk (RAID), Logical Unit Number (LUN), Direct Attached Storage (DAS), Fiber Channel Storage Area Network (FCSAN), IP Storage Area Network (IPSAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS). Moving on to Cloud Computing front, participants will learn about major service models like IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.

Software Defined Network (SDN): Software defined networking (SDN) is a new way of looking at how networking and loud solutions should be automated, efficient, and scalable in a new world where application services may be provided locally, by the data center, or even the cloud. The course covers the background and the current stage of development in SDN domain.

Telco Cloud and NFV: The course starts with explanation of terms like server, hypervisor, guest OS, application, NIC and virtual machine. Concept of Virtualization is explained using server virtualization., application virtualization, hosted virtualization, storage virtualization and network virtualization. The course covers NFV architecture, Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure, Virtualization Layers, NFV Orchestrator and open stack software used for implementation of the virtualization concepts.
